PlanetHollywood.com To Auction Costumes From Planet of the Apes

ORLANDO, Fla.

(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)

Super Fans Looking for the `Ultimate' Halloween Costume Should Look No Further

Just in time for Halloween, four costumes from "Planet of the Apes" will be auctioned online at PlanetHollywood.com. The rare costumes, used in various "Planet of the Apes" movies and television shows, include a chimpanzee, gorilla, orangutan, and "child" chimpanzee. The auction, listed on eBay (Nasdaq:EBAY) and hosted at www.planethollywood.com, runs Oct. 3-13 (Friday the 13th). The costumes were constructed by Western Costume Company specifically for several of the "Planet of the Apes" films, as well as the television series. In the early 1980s, Twentieth Century Fox sold the items back to the costume company for rental purposes. In fact, some of the chimpanzee costumes were used in 1993 for an episode of "Saturday Night Live" with guest host Charlton Heston. "People have always been fascinated with `Planet of the Apes,'" said PlanetHollywood.com Auction Curator Colleen Faulkner. "It ranks as one of the most important and imaginative science fiction movies in American film history." The costumes are being sold as part of a special Halloween-themed online auction that features props from scary movies and other costume-worthy memorabilia. Horror movie fanatics can browse through more than thirty items to find the ultimate Halloween costume or the one essential item that will make any house haunted. Other highlights include a scythe from "Children of the Corn IV: The Gathering," a prop terror clown head from "Batman Returns," and a charcoal drawing from "Interview with the Vampire." More detail about the costumes: - The chimpanzee costume consists of green pants, green tunic with brown leatherette collar (with scroll on the cuffs), brown undertunic, and green feet/shoes. It was constructed for the film "Planet of the Apes," as well as the television series. - The gorilla costume consists of purple pants, purple tunic, purple leather vest, and a brown ammo belt. The belt was made for the first film and then altered for the television series. It was constructed for the film " Planet of the Apes." It was later reused in the other "Apes" films, as well as the television series. - The orangutan costume consists of orange pants and a brown tunic with the rare leatherette patches on the sleeve. It was constructed for the film "Planet of the Apes," and was also used in "Beneath the Planet of the Apes," "Battle for the Planet of the Apes," and the television series. - The incomplete chimpanzee child costume consists of a brown undertunic and brown shoes. It was constructed for the film, "Planet of the Apes." It was later reused in "Battle for the Planet of the Apes," as well as in the television series. This is a rare piece because the studio only made six child-sized chimp costumes. Visitors to PlanetHollywood.com can bid on one-of-a-kind movie-related items and props. Many of the items, authenticated by Planet Hollywood's memorabilia staff, come from Planet Hollywood's collection - one of the largest in the world.
