HyperTV with Livewire To Provide Synchronized Web Content and Chat for The Sixth Sense on STARZ! and StarzMovies.com

SANTA MONICA, Calif. & NEW YORK

(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Oct. 6, 2000--HyperTV(R) with Livewire today announced that viewers of 1999's biggest movie, The Sixth Sense, airing on STARZ!(R) on October 8 and October 13, will be able to receive and interact with synchronized, exclusive Web content offering detailed background on the film and related information when they tune to the blockbuster thriller. HyperTV(R) with Livewire is a joint venture between ACTV's (Nasdaq: IATV) HyperTV Networks subsidiary and Liberty Livewire Corporation (Nasdaq: LWIRA). "The emergence of convergence programming on the two-screen platform being employed by Starz Encore Group for The Sixth Sense highlights the interest consumers have for enhanced television experiences," said Bill Airy, Vice President of Interactive Services for Liberty Livewire Corporation. "With no hardware or technology dependency, other than having a PC and a TV set in the same room, millions of television viewers have created their own version of interactive TV and are anxiously looking for enhanced programming opportunities. We are pleased to be working with Starz Encore Group to provide that experience." "The HyperTV-enhanced airings of The Sixth Sense on STARZ! will showcase a level of creative content and interactivity that sets the standard in terms of providing viewers with the highest quality interactive and enhanced TV programming experience," said Bruce Crowley, president of ACTV's HyperTV Networks. "As the audience for these new types of convergent experiences continues to grow, it will be critical to deliver a compelling product that viewers enjoy, while demonstrating its value to networks, cable operators, programmers and advertisers." Powered by the patented HyperTV(R) technology, STARZ! viewers will be able to select from two supplementary HyperTV Web content tracks as they watch the movie -- one for those who have seen the movie and the other for those who have not. In addition to information about the film and the film making process, HyperTV(R) with Livewire's Web content will feature The STARZ! Balcony -- a chat room where people can discuss the film. Also available from Hyper TV(R) with Livewire will be background on the existence of ghosts, books and movies on related subjects and a link to the Starz Encore Super Pak(SM) free preview and subscription Web page. To participate in the HyperTV-enhanced version of The Sixth Sense on STARZ!, viewers log-on to http://www.starzmovies.com, register, and download the free HyperTV software plug-in. The patented HyperTV technology enables TV networks, programmers and advertisers to automatically deliver compelling interactive Web content, Web-based advertising, e-commerce, and community chat features that are precisely synchronized to live or pre-recorded TV programming (or any other video-based content). The only requirement to experience a HyperTV event is to have an Internet-connected computer (minimum 33.6 kbps) and a TV set located in the same room. HyperTV currently serves the growing number of TV viewers who simultaneously use the Internet to complement and enhance their TV viewing experiences. According to a survey released in June 2000 by Dataquest, a unit of Gartner Group, 44 million individuals in the U.S. watch TV and simultaneously surf the Web (a so-called "two box" experience). By the beginning of 2001, the number is projected to reach 52 million U.S. consumers, up from 27 million consumers in 1999. As digital set top box technology becomes more sophisticated and more consumers gain high-speed Internet access, viewers will be able to experience both video and Internet content delivered simultaneously to their television (a "one box" experience).
